Town Hopping and Castle Ruins

On Sunday A, S, and I had somewhat of an unexpected adventure.

Over the couple of weeks that we have been here we have made friends with some of the locals that work at our favorite restaurants and bars.

Meet D

We decided to meet up with D and go town hopping and just drive through the countryside around southern Czech Republic.
It was a ton of fun, although I was a little unprepared in the footwear department.

First we had to walk for an hour to go and get the jeep, since D’s buddy forgot to bring it into town.
Then we were off to the store to buy supplies for a lunch picnic later in the day.  It was a huge grocery store, almost felt like home haha.

First stop was Rosenburg Castle.
I don't know what it is with old people and building castles on top of hills, but it needs to stop.

I named her Rosie

this poor baby had an eye infection I think :(
so sad

We had a picnic at the river and lounged in the sun for a bit.
Potato salad, cheese, salami, some breads, fruits, and some treats for dessert.

I have recently figured out the panorama function on my camera haha
needless to say, I was pretty stoked

I don't look to happy...
the water was freezing my feet off

in every single photo that S took I am stuffing my face with food

After a nice little picnic by the river we decided to do a little off-roading since we had a jeep.

It didn’t go so well since all we did was end up driving up to someone’s house haha.  The only English they knew was American mustang horses.  It was rather funny listening to D, whose first language is Spanish, try and converse with an older Czech man who only knows three words of English.

the Czech countryside is beautiful

see that walk way?
yeah we tried to drive up it in a Jeep...

After lunch we drove to Lipno, a huge lake and dam area with tons of campsites and cabins around it.

A was the only one brave enough to go swimming

Probably the most fun part of the trip was when D said that we should go check out some old castle ruins.  He said it was a straight walk down the path and that we could not get lost.

He failed to mention that it was over an hours trek each way through the forest and up a mountain haha.

While we were cursing the air blue because of him, we actually got to see some pretty amazing ruins that no one else in our trip will get to see.
However, the trek through the forest, and then up the side of a mountain while wearing flip flops was not the best idea…my legs are still hurting.

We ended the day with watching a performance at the castle’s revolving outdoor theatre.
The entire thing was in Czech and there for I have no idea with they were going on about.  But apparently it is an old Austria fairytale and the whole thing was about finding water and something about the King of the Alps…which was a complete surprise because it did not seem like that was the direction the play was going in.
