I had a whirlwind of a weekend! So many events and activities I am surprised I managed to make it to class on monday morning! My weekend, in typical east coast fashion, started on thursday night.
So, last semester I was in a development and activism course and our class project was about the North Korean political prison labour camps. The book that our project was based around was Escape From Camp 14, about a young man that was born into a labour camp and managed to escape in his mid twenties. He is the only known survivor to have been born into a camp and to have escaped. His story is remarkable, I literally could not put the book down and probably finished it in a few hours. So our class took to the streets, the papers, and social media to bring attention to Shin's story, as well as the plight of hundreds of thousands of North Koreans that do not have a voice of their own. Shin heard of our project and made contact with us via Facebook. He called us his hero's and promised to come visit. Unfortunately we were unable to get him to Dal while the course was still running, but we were able to organize a visit for last week! On Thursday night he gave a talk at Dal, it was popular that we actually had to turn people away because we were beyond capacity! 600 people turned up to hear his story and to continue to fight for the rights of the people of the DPRK.
On Friday night I was invited to a dinner at the University Club since Shin was the keynote speaker. It was unbelievable that I was meeting this man, getting to sit down and talk to him, not just reading about his story and chatting via Facebook.
Professor H,
the man that sparked our interest and made it possible for Shin to join us

On Saturday night Molson had a Coors Light Cold Party at the Grawood, Dalhousie's campus bar. These events are so much fun, we have to work but we get to party with our friends at the same time. Work always go by so much faster when that happens :)

On Sunday night A and I went to the East Coast Music Awards gala. I'm not going to lie, I hadn't heard of 95% of the artists that were nominated, but none the less it was a lot of fun!

technically we were there because of Molson,
but we did not do any work related activities
I had an amazing 4 nights! It was a nice break from the monotony of school and the ridiculous amount of homework that I have due within the next 3-4 weeks.
