Well this past weekend was spent consuming a obscene amount of turkey, alcohol, mussels, and puppy cuddling. I had an amazing few days with some wonderful family friends in Lunenburg, NS. Nan and my mother went to UBC together back in the day, so now I have mothers on both coasts :) Nan and her husband live in this amazingly old, historic house in the town of Lunenburg (A UNESCO World Heritage Site). The inside has old, distressed wood plank flooring that creak, boat oars as stair railings, and numerous nautical and sailing instruments on the wall, many of which I am completely obviously to their usage. Every time I visit, I discover a new part of the town that I did not know was there before. This town has an old and deeply entrenched history in Nova Scotian culture. Lunenburgers keep the old ship building and sea faring ways of life alive, which otherwise would be lost to the modern world we live in. Some of the first settlers to Canada landed in Lunenburg. Their stories of struggle, romance, heartbreak, and daily lives imbibe the town; imprinting on your soul, making you feel a world away from modern day society. I should have taken a million more pictures this weekend than I did, but my mind was on turkey, apple pie, and gravy.
Photo cred to J who, funnily enough, was in Lunenburg the same time I was and we did not manage to cross paths...highly unusual in such a small town
The view from the Lunenburg Harbour Docks...poor little iPhone camera did not stand a chance at taking a decent photograph

Sand Dollar Beach. Dylan and I decided it would be a fun idea to play in the waves...The Atlantic Ocean is very cold :(

Dilly is a Wheaton Terrier, he may not be able to play fetch but he is adorable!
Back at Mikey's house making margaritas on Thanksgiving Sunday...the one day it was sunny out but still not warm enough to sit on the deck

Not sure if the rosy cheeks come from the margaritas or having just been outside in the wind

Sorry about some of the blurry photos, Nan still does not realize that if you tap on the iPhone screen the camera will focus on the subject you want! I love getting out of the city for the weekend, and Lunenburg is the perfect escape. The mussels there are mouthwatering and keep you coming back for more. And I also think I ate about 5 lbs to myself, I also learned that I prefer the taste of boy mussels over girl mussels...but before this weekend I also never knew that they had different genders either! I have been a terrible foodie blogger lately, I would have taken photos of all the amazing food I consumed this weekend but I practically inhaled it all so I am just lucky I did not come back 10 lbs heavier!
So it is back to school once again, but with a long weekend in November to look forward to, and Christmas break will soon be upon us. And I promise to take lots of photos in Hawaii :)
