Dalhousie's poster boy building, the Henry Hicks, on a typical overcast dreary day. This was the first day of classes two weeks ago but since then we have had fairly decent weather!
Well school is well under way and I have been trying to be a good little student and study as much as I can. Since the beginning of my university career I have always start the year out with good intentions; but some how end up having last minute cram sessions because I did not do any of the assigned readings...just like everyone else haha. This year is slightly different though, most of my courses are seminars with no final exam at the end and a participation mark of at least 25% which means that I HAVE to keep up with the readings because I am expected to talk in class. As many of my friends well know, I have a fear of public speaking, causing me to say umm, like, and soooo more often than is necessary. Something that I have noticed already this academic year is how many people say umm every fourth or fifth word, which got me to thinking, do they have a fear of public speaking as well? Or is the over use of umm happening because of a decline in the proper use of the English language and not being able to properly speak to a group of people? I am currently having heart palpitations because of a presentation I have to make tomorrow, and it is only to a group of ten!
I am sitting in the library taking a break from my readings and thought I should write a little something since I haven't in quite some time. I am hoping to keep up with fairly regular posts throughout the year, especially when I have pictures from Hawaii in December and the Grad trip during reading week of next year :)
